The interactive periodic table of the elements
The periodic table organises all 118 known chemical elements by their atomic number, electron configuration and recurring chemical properties. Created by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869, it remains the single most important reference in all of chemistry — a map that lets you predict how any element will behave just from where it sits.
This interactive version makes that map come alive. Click any element tile to see a real photograph, its full properties, an animated 2D or 3D model of its atom, and a fun fact. Use “Colour by” to turn the whole table into a heatmap of atomic mass, electronegativity, density, melting point and more — revealing the periodic trends at a glance. Compare any two elements side by side, test yourself with the quiz, drill symbols with flashcards, or plot periodicity charts. Scroll down for teacher-ready lesson plans, a trends guide, a glossary and a FAQ.
